The history behind Keema
Why don’t you learn a bit about Keema and its history before learning more about egg keema and how to prepare it? Keema is a traditional meat delicacy, extremely popular in India. The word Keema is derived from the Turkish word ‘Kıyma’, which can be translated to minced meat. This dish became popular at an age when the royal families took their culinary affairs almost as seriously as their administration.
During the period, the khansamas or in other words, the royal cooks of several Mughal rulers and Nawabs, invented wide varieties of keema delicacy. This was done to satiate the appetite of their beloved kings and other royals of the court. As a result, it became a popular breakfast staple in the Awadhi cuisine during medieval India.
Do you know how they make Keema? One of the most popular ways to make Keema is as a dry curry served with paratha or naan. Keema can be made from almost any meat cooked by stewing or frying. It can be used to make kebabs and sometimes as a filling for samosas or naan. But today, we are not using meat but replacing it with eggs. So, as we have learned about the basics of Keema, why don’t we go ahead and make an egg keema?
