Ingredients required
- Rice: 1cup
- Urad Dal (Split): ¼ cup
- Parboiled rice: ¼ cup
- Poha: ¼ cup
- Fenugreek seeds: ¼ teaspoon
- Tomatoes: 3
- Mustard seeds: 1 teaspoon
- Finely chopped curry leaves: 1 sprig
- Finely chopped onion: 2
- Salt: as required
- Water: as required
- Oil: as required
Let’s make a nutritious Tomato Dosa recipe
To begin with, you have to do some prep. So let’s go to that.
Make dosa batter
- Rinse the rice and urad dal till you get clean colour water.
- Now, rinse the parboiled rice, poha and fenugreek seeds just once.
- Soak every ingredient separately in enough water to submerge them for at least 8 hours.
- After 8 hours, drain and discard the water from everything other than the fenugreek seeds.
- Add the rice, urad dal and a quarter cup of water to the blender and blend into a coarsely smooth consistency.
- Now, add fenugreek seeds and the water, poha and parboiled rice into this mixture. Then add another quarter cup and more if needed to the blender and blend till it becomes a semi-thick smooth batter without any grains.
- Now leave this batter to ferment for 8 hours.
- After 8 hours, your batter would have doubled in quantity and become frothy. Now, your dosa batter is ready.
Now, let’s make our Dosa batter into Tomato Dosa batter!
- Chop the tomatoes roughly and grind them until smooth.
- Now, heat some oil, preferably coconut oil, into a pan.
- Add mustard seeds to the hot oil and wait for them to pop.
- Once the popping subsides, add the curry leaves and pour the tomato puree into it.
- Cook the puree until it thickens up a bit and set it aside to be cooled
- Once it is cool to touch, add the puree and salt into the dosa batter and mix it properly.
- Now, your Tomato dosa batter is ready.
Let’s make some crispy Tomato dosa.
- Heat a dosa tawa or a non-stick pan on medium flame.
- Once the pan becomes hot, scoop a spoonful of batter onto the pan.
- Spread the batter as a thin sheet on the pan with the back of your spoon.
- Now, cover the pan with a plate for 20 seconds or so.
- Remove the covering and sprinkle some oil on top of the dosa.
- Now using a spatula, slowly release the sides of your dosa.
- Then slowly detach your dosa from the surface of the pan.
- Repeat the same process until you are satisfied. Delicious Tomato dosa is ready!
